2006 997 Turbo Porsche
I suppose this is the most expensive car I have owned, granted it was with my ex-husband, but hey. First and foremost... make sure you say the word Porsche correctly or you will get in trouble. Pronounced "portia".
I had always wanted a Porsche growing up, besides the adorable 1965 356 which had been my absolutely favorite car growing up, I also really liked the 1997 Carrera Cabriolet. I had a dark blue one taped to my wall in High School. As a female who had previously owned a CL55 Mercedes and a Range Rover, when I started driving the 997, I was less than impressed. Yes it is a sporty car, small, and you can get great parking with it, it also carried much pressure.
Cops were constantly eyeing the car, high schoolers who I swear had just gotten their first car and dumped all their money into it constantly pulled up on my tail, and then next to me to push me to race them. It was absurdly annoying. Let me have a nice ride, please.
As far as it being a nice car, there was also the pressure to keep it pristine, no finger marks, don't touch it, the suede roof lining was a nice touch, yet compared to other cars, it felt pretty much sporty, and lacked in luxury. Kind of reminds me of a Lamborghini my neighbor used to have. I'm sorry guys, but I want the inside to feel like luxury as well as the drive.
The 997 was an extremely firm ride, I was constantly yelled at to double clutch, and avoiding every little hole in the road was an absolute nuisance!
Since it is small, you can imagine, there really is only room for my handbag and I. I've got to say, I kind of feel like the biggest snob while writing this, as I know many would love the opportunity to drive a 997. Bottom line, though, I'm grateful for the experience of owning the car, it was fun, and definitely took off like a Jet throwing you back into your seat. After having it once, honestly, I don't really have a desire to buy one ever again.
PROS: Fast and fun.
CONS: Space, other people, lack of luxury.
